Tis the last day of 2002. Tomorrow is 2003. Hoo. Ray.
Happy New Year to those that celebrates. To those that like me, think it's a silly Western thingy and an excuse for people to party, here's a toast from me couch and me remote! (too bad Wallaby and Wombat can't join me lazing session, sob)
(isn't it incredulously warm lately?)

Woohoo... it's a Friday. :D
Gonna start this blog with a little personal narrative with potential to offend. No ill-will but I'm just fed up with spam. I can't say much about spam from companies in dire need of a buck but when people send stuff like:
1. chain mails that says, send this to so and so people and you get so and so stuff (come on, get real)
2. email that says forward this and Corporation X will track and pay you so and so sum of money (really, get real)
3. forward a sappy soppy story about a boy who has no hands and five legs but is able to play the piano so that he gets a chance to learn tap-dancing (please, are you for real?)
4. send messages to your friends otherwise Company A will terminate your account (are you from this planet?)
Why is it so hard to use common sense? Spam is highly irritating, possibly damaging and is simply no good. Most people think, heck, why not? It could be real. USE YOUR COMMON SENSE! Grrr.... Spam is bad because:
1. It clogs inboxes.
2. It jams up servers.
3. It gives people access to a mailing list (which eventually lead to more spam)
4. Your privacy is compromised.
5. I don't like it.

On another front, or should that be rear... had another butt jab yesterday. Sigh. Allergies flared so needed some anti-histamines with a bunch of more sleepy pills, creams and vitamins. Rabbits will be going back with me to Melaka and stay there for a week or two. Am gonna miss them bad but I need to figure out what the darned allergant is. Grr... am very grumpy when I itch. Grr...

It's back to work on a Thursday after a terrific weekend in Penang! (thanks Saw! and thanks Chun as well!)
Will post pictures soon but till then, here's a quick summary:
Saturday
Left for Penang at about 11'ish with Chun and Saw. Stopped at Bidur along the way for wantan mee and to get some biscuits and etc. This marked the first food stop of a glutton-haven weekend at Penang, which we arrived at about 4hrs plus later.
Saw has a very gracious and pleasant family and felt guilty for imposing on them! Found myself taking over Saw's room while he had to bunk with his brother (apologies!).
Went out shortly for a Western dinner at a roadside stall which had a great variety of choice. Stopped by Gurney Plaza later for a bit of shopping. Realised soon after that in Penang, almost all shops, including big retail chains don't except credit cards for anything less than RM30-50. Very the infuriariting.
Stopped by Rasa Sayang Resort to meet Chun's brother. Then later went on to meet fellow blogger Aewis. (Nice to have met you Aewis! Let's eat again some other time). She brought kuih talam with her (which was goooood) and we chatted about uni/college life till it was about 3am. Sleepy..... but it was a good day.
Sunday
Woke up to the deliciously tempting smell of Hokkien Prawn Mee. (thanks to Saw's mom). It was very very good and very spicy. I normally don't take Prawn Mee simply because I don't take prawns but an exception was made. Ah... shiok. I love spicy noodles.
Left soon after to first pick up Aewis then went to get my bus tickets home. Decided to get the Nice Executive at RM50 per trip. Later headed on to Penang Road for Asam Laksa! Had no idea Asam Laksa had so much fish! But once again the wafting smells overcame me dislike for fish and I finished the bowl. Outside of the sardine-like aftertaste, it was a very good meal. :) Had chendol afterwards at a famous stall with queues you won't believe.
Headed on to Komtar and Prangin Mall for some bit of shopping. Bought lots of stuff. I crashed my budget and it's only the 2nd day there. Ah well. :D
Went to Swatow (yes, swatow) Lane afterwards for ABC and Cucur and Popiah. T'was good but ABC was to pink for me liking. ABC came with ice-cream, bananas, watermelon or papayas. Interesting. Saw was asking what 'atapchi' was made of. Flour he said. He was enlightened to know that 'atapchi' was the fruit/seed of the nipah palm. :D
Went home soon after and rested before heading out for dinner with Chun and Saw's parents. Didn't know the parents were meeting for the first time! Felt like I was watching a traditional match-making ritual! Hehehe. Slight moment of awkwardness but soon dissolved with more good food. Saw's parents ordered a veritable feast with black pepper ostrich meat, fish head curry, asparagus with shrimp, prawns with cheese, belacan fried chicken and weird of weird, yu-cha-kuey (I hope I spelt that right) salad that came with coleslaw. Good. Stuffed.
Sleep came easy that night. :D
Monday
Monday was the only reason I was in Penang. Had work to do so met my boss at about 9'ish and was busy with presentations and proposals till 6pm. Had no idea wat Chun and Saw did but tis none of my business. :D Met them after work and went to see Chun's parents at their hotel in Ferringhi. Later went home, changed and went to Saw's birthday dinner. YES, birthday dinner! Happy Birthday again Saw. Many many happy returns.
Dinner that night was good (common theme ay). We had rice with sambal kangkung, curry squid, sweet and sour chicken, seafood omelette and popiah for appetisers. Restaurant was by the beach so scenery was interesting. Lots of caucasians and tourist folk.
Took a walk home (which was closeby) and visited the roadside stalls hawking everything from souvenir stuffs to swords and all things imaginable. Pretty but no shopping was done. Probably coz we were too satiated. :)
Saw's family then surprised him with cake and candles! Had yummy cookies and cream ice-cream cake! Am so stuffed!
Tuesday
Last day for me on the island. Had a good breakfast and then went to Midlands One-Stop for shopping and lunch. Bought meself lots of Pokemon card boosters. Hehehe. (Saw did too). Then went to town to get tambun piah's and nutmegs before heading off home at about 3.30. T'was a great trip. :)

The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers
Before:
Took me a good 80 minutes to drive from Kelana Jaya to Megamall. Horrendous traffic. Cursed and swore to heart's content. Grr. Reached there in time for dinner and some shopping. Got me a steering lock for (uh-hum) me new car. Thought of getting other stuff too like air fresheners but decided it was a little premature considering I haven't even settled the financing. Headed on to the cineplexes about 30 minutes before showtime and got a little taken aback with the crowd. A good thousand or so people seem to be there, all gaggly and googly eyed. Movie characters were walking about, (Gandalf was holding a broomstick painted white with a rattan ball at the tip, sungguh sad) and Legolas (with Pantene locks included) drew many starry-eyed stares. Very buoyant festive atmosphere. Lots of fans out there.
The Seats:
Entering the cineplex, I realised the darling Starbucks people from Great Eastern Mall sold me front row seats. A little peeved but not in a position to do much. Sitting from the front row makes the movie watching experience surreal since the whole screen is just barely within your vision scope and everything is just so huge. (remembered staring at Gollum's eyes way way too much).
The Movie:
Great movie! Very different from the first one, which I felt was a tad dull. I didn't notice the time flew by for this one. Very engaging. Unlike the first one, the Two Towers is more faithful to the book and readers will be able to appreciate it so much more. Friend who didn't read the book didn't quite enjoy it as much probably because some scenes or dialogue didn't make sense. Fans of the book will find the movie (for the most part) a good visual interpretation without much straying. Some people may not like it but I think movies made from books should stay true to the books, otherwise call it something else.
The Two Towers has some incredible fighting scenes. You have Ents and Wargs and the Nazgul. The Gollum is also weirdly spooky but very intriguing. The only thing I don't like about the movie is Frodo. Since I know how it ends, am kinda not so bothered with the wimpy pale-faced ring bearer but with all the action going about everywhere else! Don't quite think the third movie will be as fun but then again...
.........
Reached home close to 2 and woke up at about 11am. Thank goodness for foresight. :D Took the morning off in anticipation so no after-effects to reel from. Also, talked to Saw and Chun last night and I'll be tagging with them to Penang! Woohoo... will be good to do something different and it has been quite awhile since I've been to Penang. Thanks again Saw.
(Still wondering whether I'm interfering with any lovey-dovey plans) (what time you leaving Saturday and where do I meet you :) )

Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers opens today. Let's hope it's good! :) Going to be drop dead tired tonight and tomorrow though...
Have a presentation this morning to go too. Was so pre-occupied with my grumpy mood that I forgot my tie. I hope my boss overlooks it. Impression is everything in business.
(update)
Phew. Presentation was a little long but has good vibes. Had a good talk with boss as well over lunch. (chicken rice, nyum). All his backup plans are out in force so we're in good business till
April (before we're in trouble anyways). So it's more work in the pipeline but at least things aren't all that glum. For those that aren't too familiar, the reason I'm agitated is not because I'm worried about finding work but because I still owe my scholarship funders. Have (illegally) avoided a binding contract with the promise of some protection from current company. Doubt that any other company will do the same and am definitely not keen to fulfill my contract obligations. I just wish they rescind the contract and let me go... please release me... LET ME GO!
Anyways, I will enjoy myself tonight. I will not be bothered and I will spend money without doing mental calculations. So there. :D

Ah... Tuesday. If only all work weeks begin on a Tuesday.
Ain't feeling all that great this week. Company had another major setback which seriously endangers our profitability. On the personal front, some deep seated issues unsettled. Plus, I've booked my car. Crappy crappy crappy. So crappy till I have a passing interest in LOTR tomorrow. Will go since I have tickets but thrill got winded out. Looks like a sucky year end. Sigh.

Was nauseous and puky yesterday. Left work a couple of hours early hoping to get sleep but couldn't. Boss called a couple of times and by the 2nd call, mind was too preoccupied with work to sleep so went to tidy the rabbits. (yawn)
Feeling better today. I'm betting it was the sardine bun for breakfast that caused it all. Grr... I so hate sardines. Only reason I chose it over choc buns was because it's healthier. Very much good it did. (blech). For those that don't know, I'm a comparatively fussy eater (especially by Asian standards, with the Chinese eating everything). Don't take seafood, including fish (but I am partial to Yong Tau Foo), no mutton, minimal beef and pork but I like all vegetables and am a big fan of chicken. :)
Came to work to see inbox full of pending work. Sigh... only two days to the weekend. I like my inboxes full on Monday so at least then I have a good week to clear it up. Sigh... Well, on the plus side, I have a dinner date tomorrow at KLCC so that's some joy. Lalalalala....
Having nervous doubts to the car. It's something I have to do (dad needs my kancil back for sis) but well, the financial commitment is scary especially when you're not too secure with your job. (consulted tarot cards yesterday! spooky but everytime I do the company reading, I get the same card, and it's not a very good one. sigh... time will tell.)

lalala.... been a tad lazy updating this week. Moods a little whacked out. Exhiliration a moment and depression the next. Why? Well... lots of stuff going on, involving (in this order):
1. money money money
2. matters of the heart (details will not be provided unless bribed)
3. work security which then leads again to money money money
However, I am going to shove pessimism to one dank corner and go ahead and get my Satria 1.3. (yes it's 2 doors, yes it's 1.3 and yes it's a proton) (i dun care, i like it, i can't afford anything more and ur not driving it). So am going to leap into my first big financial commitment (well third probably if you count a notebook and my scholarship). The adventures of material adulthood... thrilling.
Can't wait for 2003. New year new tidings. Before that countdown however, it's LORD OF THE RINGS next WEDNESDAY! :D Those who bought the charity premier tickets do tell me. We can do dinner. (just get the people who work for your people to call the people that works for my people) (or an sms will do).

Howdy... bleak Monday after a good long weekend. Inevitable but hey, without Monday's, Friday won't be half as good. :)
Had a pretty good weekend. Travelling back was a headache though. Bad traffic on some stretches. Thankfully aunt was driving. Don't quite understand though how traffic can be haltingly slow in one section and suddenly clear up a few metres ahead with no exits or lane additions. Very very weird. Took us a good hour extra to get home, which isn't all too bad considering.
Only two people, including myself, in the office today. Everyone else is still on leave and boss is out of town. Then again, everyone else is only 2 other people! :) Very homey-like to be working in a small start-up like this but when work starts a rolling, you really do feel the pinch.
Anyways, still a little bleary-eyed from the weekend and brain's still hallucinating from all the sleep and cookies. (didn't quite get as much ketupat as I would have liked). Here's to a good week to all.

Darn... was so hoping for Raya to fall on Thursday. Darn.
Very uneventful couple of days this. Nothing much happened, especially since my kid cousins are all in Melaka. It's so quiet and peaceful in USJ without them noisy brats. Just me, 1 unwanted kid, my aunt and her hubbie. I am so turned off by the prospect of children. Hope me parents dun mind not having any grandchildren anytime soon!
Can't wait for the weekend. Am getting very jaded with work. Being financially tight this month is a bummer as well. I've spent all my salary and it's not even the middle of the month. I have serious money issues that I need to re-examine. Am still gonna get me car in January though. Have more or less decided and don't see any reason to back out.
Anyways, here's to a good Raya to everyone (especially those that celebrates it in particular!) and a restful relaxing weekend. :D

Hi hi... had two meetings this morning so normal routine of blog updating during breakfast got interrupted. :) Work is hectic as usual but things look set to settle. Feels like making Jell-O, all the endless mixing and measuring parts and then the slow process of waiting, which you have to do, otherwise if you interrupt you get lumpy Jell-O. (I'm also starting to crave for Jell-O all of a sudden, which might explain the analogy.)
Was frustrated with me rabbits yesterday simply because they were behaving like rabbits and not a dog. Took me a good 15 minutes to realise I was standing there half naked in a towel berating Wallaby and Wombat for pooping outside the room. All they did was stare at you bunny-eyed then proceed to clean themselves. Don't know what came over me but I started barking and chased them helter skelter all over the house! :) Never knew they could run so fast! Hahahaha... and seeing how the floor provides them no grip, it takes a while of stationary running before motion sets in (like cartoons) and they have no way of steering themselves outside of smacking into a wall and starting all over again. I think I have a new hobby. (let's keep the SPCA out of this)
Anyways, was at the clinic yesterday and meds they gave me for evenings have an incredibly drowsy effect. Foresee beddie byes by 9pm this week. (snore.....)

Had a jumbled weekend. Didn't quite start all that great as boss was ill on Friday, possible mild stroke. He's ok now but if he doesn't quite slow down, well, office is a wee bit worried.
Midvalley Megamall
Went to Megamall on Saturday. Caught a movie at a very festive GSC. Free shokubutsu orange samples with every ticket, and a free spin on the wheel of fortune with every 2 paid tickets. Also, RM6 for all shows! They also had weirdly costumed people walking about. Saw RingWraiths, Spiderman, Harry Potter, Austin Powers (he was sad sad sad) (more ahbeng than mojo) and Queen Amidala, among others. Very festive and very crowded. Got tickets for Kate and Leopold, starring Hugh Jackman and Meg Ryan. Odd romance comedy of time travelling duke from 1872 who falls in love with dysfunctional career women from 2002. Was out till late at night so Saturday was a good day. (and I managed to resist from buying anything!) (to heck with the sales)
Pigging out Sunday
Stayed home Sunday. After enduring bad bad bad traffic on Saturday, figured Sunday could only be worse so had to back out from original plans. (sorry guys). Pretty much stayed home playing games, watching Astro and prancing with bunnies. Was a pig though. Too lazy to go out so this is what I ate the whole day through.
1 whole loaf of raisin oatmeal Toast'Ems
3 packets of instant noodles
1 fried egg
1 plate of defrosted and oven cooked onion rings
lots of muruku
1/4 tub of ice cream
2 packets of chocolate milk
:) Good friend gave me 3 packets of Thai instant noodles. They were pretty good. 1 was spicy tom yam (shiok, super spicy though), 1 PORK tom yam and 1 duck flavoured. Very much different from our Maggi Mee and pretty refreshing for the taste buds. :)
Rabbit's Woe
Was playing PC games on Sunday and let rabbits run loose in the room. After a while, noticed they were quiet so went to check on them. Some of you would have remembered me calling them 'she' because they were supposedly females. When I saw Wombat vigorously mounting Wallaby, heart skipped a second and mentally calculated when a litter would arrive. Rabbits mate tremendously quick with very high success rates so I was very peeved. Two rabbits were enough. So lifted Wombat and placed him somewhere else. THEN Wallaby went after Wombat and HE mounted him! Lifted them both and realised that they were BOTH males. (got to skew my supposedly rabbit expert friend who identified them both as females). Well, no babies on the way I guess and if they want to mount each other, well, am not gonna get in the way of what turns them on! A little frustrated though since male rabbits will progressively get harder to housetrain. Looks like neutering is imminent.
(warning: no butt jokes please :P )
Midvalley Megamall
Went to Megamall on Saturday. Caught a movie at a very festive GSC. Free shokubutsu orange samples with every ticket, and a free spin on the wheel of fortune with every 2 paid tickets. Also, RM6 for all shows! They also had weirdly costumed people walking about.
