HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Till we blog again... :D

Wednesday, January 29, 2003

Ah darn... it's the-second-last-day-before-I-go-on-leave day and it sucks...

Sorry for the absence of an update yesterday. Was in a desolate part of Shah Alam for most of the day and came back about 4 to have a good pile of reports to finish. Ah well.

Met up Chun, Saw, Meng and HL last night for dinner and some last minute shopping. Thank you Chun for the McD dinner! :D (regrets not ordering a sundae... muahahaha). Did some shopping and I got meself one orange Ikea mousepad and a neon green football. Don't ask don't tell.

Most people would be off by tomorrow but I'll be off only from Friday onwards. Darn. Most people seem to complain that this Chinese New Year seems much quieter but for me, it seems to have the makings of one of the best ones yet!

Brought some goodies for colleagues. Brought some for boss as well (after much thought). Hopefully having his employees give him something will stir up whatever 'chinese' that is left inside to prompt him to give out a red packet or declare Thursday off. (fingers are crossed so tight I may lose their use).

Anyways, to one and all, especially those that won't be online/blogging tomorrow... HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR 2003! This my year, the year of the Goat so whip out those antlers, get horny and butt butts. (now, did that come out right?)

ps: yahoo is acting up again...

I hereby proclaim today OogaBoogaDay simply because calling it a Monday is too depressing.

Got back from Melaka late last night after endless hours spent shopping, cleaning, EATING and mindlessly watching Astro. (woohoo!) Still some work to be done but I guess Mom and Sis will have to take care of it themselves. Since it's OogaBoogaDay and there's work to unwillingly go to. Did manage to put up all my lanterns (41 at last count) and designed a freaky orange light thingy in the hall. It doesn't look very earthly but don't have time to make it better. At least it's orange. (I like having a fully decked home, tacky or otherwise, at least it's festive).

It's official. I'm now a Tesco convert. Goodbye Giant and Carrefour, my first choice of hypermarket indulgence is now Tesco. It's brighter, cleaner, wider and has all the things I like, want and need.

It's almost Chinese New Year and I'm getting tingles just thinking about it. Best part is, I'm off for a week! Woohoo! To those that sent out cards, thank you thank you! And for those who are in Melaka, always welcome to drop by me house anytime. Just give me a ring first to be safe.

WOOHOO! It's a Friday! (somehow this line never gets bored)

Am feeling better today (because it's a FRIDAY! woohoo!). Got a decent night sleep, throat ain't so sore and had a wonderfully filling breakfast of steaming nasi lemak and soy milk. Sigh... Daniel is contented when he has soy milk.

Yesterday though, was a whole different ballgame. Was so sleepy I was mumbling through the day. Worse still, made plans at night for dinner and shopping at Pyramid which left me very much in a zombie state. Lack of sleep is such a bummer. Especially when there's work. Pyramid was fine though. Got some throw pillows and a towel for the rabbits (they bathe too) and some tidbits for home. Spent enough to join this Tourism Malaysia Millionaire Draw. (darn I so want to win). Drawing is in March by the PM himself but knowing my luck, I should be lucky to get a towel (i have 2 rabbits).

Friend took my car (he's the first non-Daniel driver) and helped me add the top windscreen tint and gave the car a good wash. Wanted to add the sensors but apparently, original Proton sensors are not compatible with the regular ones you find from accessory shops. (bloody Proton). Original ones costs RM375 while standard ones costs RM188. Since I just need the sensors and since this is a lost cause, I guess I'll just have to cover the holes at the rear. Sigh.

Anyways, will be heading back home today (ahh...) and will see you all next week. Take care and have a good weekend!

Wednesday, January 22, 2003

Phew.. has been a long day at work. Presentations and proposals and budgets. Thank gawd for the coming break. Can't quite believe that Chinese New Year is just about a week away. Unlike Melaka, which by now would be red everywhere, PJ doesn't quite ring with the same mood. Tis too bad.

Had my first official bowl of full-blooded tomyam the other day. Never really had tomyam all to myself before. It was a bit too much. Weird though to have it here on the day after I leave Bangkok.

Anyways, will be going home again this weekend since it's the last weekend before CNY, I got to help out parents a bit. By the way, what happened to Chun Lynn and Saw? Hmmm....

Argh! Back to work! (slaps myself on face)

It has been such a loooong and great weekend that coming back to work is really so dreadful. Back at the desk again, staring at the monitor and argh, can just see the floodgates bursting with work and stress.

Last Day in Bangkok

Went to a huge park called Lumpini park on my last morning there (after another incredibly indulgent breakfast of pancakes, bacon, eggs, fried rice, grilled chicken, salads and yoghurt) and was amazed at the size of it (have I told you it was huge). It's easily as big as 10 football fields with lakes and small rivers everywhere. Entrance to the park is filled with 'pasar' style vendors hawking breakfast, greens and cooked dishes. The park itself is mighty clean and people abide with the non-smoking regulation (smokers should be shot) but the interesting part is the things people do there. You have lots of people doing martial arts from kickboxing, wushu, solitary meditation stuff and most interesting a taichi like thingy with fans. I know it's for defense and not dance because the things they do with the fans looks lethal at times, like stabbing, blocking, flicking and etc (reminiscent of HK kungfu movies). Very cool. Also there are people doing ballroom dancing, public karaoke (lots and lots of these) and homestyle beauty parlours. Very colourful place and smackingly different from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Came back to the hotel early and since I have time to spare, caught a movie on HBO. Gawd.. I wish I didn't because they were showing Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome starring Mel Gibson and Tina Turner and is easily one of the worst movies I've seen. Dreadful. Went to the airport soon after and came back home uneventfully. Phew.

KLIA

KLIA is confusing and I really don't like the SkyTrain. Imagine a planeload of passengers rushing (and breaking into a run sometimes) to squeeze into one measly sized SkyTrain. And the baggage claim is sloooww. It may look like a million bucks but service could barely warrant a cent.

Anyways

The rest of the weekend was uneventful and fun. Went out with a good friend for food and conversation and also went back to Melaka to get the car serviced and etc. T'was a good long weekend and I hope you guys had a good one too.

Friday, January 17, 2003

Hi hi... tis my 2nd day in Bangkok and am writing from the office which I am currently working from. (yes work... I am here for product training after all!)

Got here uneventfully though had to wake up at a most unearthly hour. (zzz). Slept through most of the flight and landed to the most foreign place I've yet to visit. Hardly anyone speaks English. Gah!

Paid extra for the airport cab, I think I paid too much extra coz I got a Mercedes with a uniformed chaffeur! RM69 for a pretty good trip and in no creaking wira! :D Heck, no wira's anywhere. Most cabs are Ford and Toyota's here.

Bangkok in brief is NOISY, LOUD, CROWDED and roads are truly impossible to cross. People don't really follow the lights, zebra crossings are for show, and they don't really slow down much for pedestrians. Lame ol' me (and we thought KL was bad) would wait for some locals to dash and I'll follow close beside. (heck, if we get run downed, they get hit first). It is very very stressful.

Foodwise, it's official. I don't like Thai food. Everything is either sour or sweet or so spicy you think you've died. Lots of food though, you can't take 3 steps without seeing a roadside vendor. On thing to note is that almost all roadside foods are deep fried. Deep friend fishballs, deep fried sausages, deep fried bananas, deep fried seafood, deep fried everything! Lots of fruits as well though. Oranges, apples, limes and strawberries. And of course, the numerous beggars with their music, cymbals and noisemakers (the city is SO noisy that without the gimmicks, no one would notice them).

Shopping is so-so as well. EVERYTHING you find on the street resembles piece per piece what I saw with Saw (hehehe, saw with saw) and Chun at Feringghi road. You get your fake Pradas, silks, clothes, knick-knacks and etc. Nothing really lar. Malls are same-same with our prices, maybe a tad cheaper but not worth dragging it all the way down. A tad disappointed. Thought could do some good shopping.

And of course, there's the nightlife. You have very sleazy bars with pictures of naked girls in front and sleazier looking touts trying to get you in. Made an about turn fairly quick. Sleaze was so thick it dripped. Porn is sold everywhere too, including malls.

My hotel is practically in downtown so all of these are a walk away. Too bad I'm too far from the temples and such. That would have been a relief. My room is huge though, with a kitchen and living area! Could easily fit a family in that room. And oh, I saw baby elephants on the street! :D Cute animals them.

Anyways, that's about it about Bangkok I guess. Will do more walking today at the end of work. Have a good weekend all and take care!

Wednesday, January 15, 2003

Last day of office work for me this week. Will be heading off to Bangkok tomorrow in the wee hours of the morning for 3 days and 2 nights. Will be back Saturday evening then proceed down to Melaka for some post-work/vacation R&R.

Outside of supernatural warnings, have taken travelling advice to heart except for boss's deadpanned advice that goes like,

'Daniel, I hope you enjoy your trip in Bangkok but stay away from the prostitutes.'

I don't have this sexually deprived look all over my face now do I. Felt like being smacked with a tuna fish. Some advice are totally unnecessary me thinks!

Anyways, I have been warned of 'mafia' taxi drivers, pickpockets, exorbitant street salesmen, dirty water, dangerous drivers and street thugs. Had no idea Bangkok is such a daunting travel location for tourists. Wonder what people say about KL?

'Beware of Satria drivers as they'll run you down twice over, rob you blind then call your grandmother names.'

Had a freaky dream last night. Was in an elevator in MMU (when MMU is involved, I know it's a nightmare) going up in a glass elevator with one big red button that's unlabelled. Didn't quite know where I was going so just went up and up. What was weird though was I noticed that certain floors had, of all things, tigers walking free. Now, if by now you don't quite get the gravity of the situation, I don't know how to explain. Terror was creeping a wee bit by now. Tigers? Loose? Outside? Don't elevators open their doors automatically when they stop on a floor? ARGH! It did stop on one floor, and while I took my tiger-defensive stance, who came in but Saw (?). Told him about tigers and he laughed, until a tiger came (and we both screamed like little school girls). Pressed the button by instinct and a small mammal ran out distracting the tiger. Went through this whole sequence (doors open, tiger lunges, press button, mammal runs out, tiger goes after mammal, doors close) for what seems like forever. FREAKY!

Probably reeling from lack of sleep. Came back late, slept late, already sleep deprived so it was a very exhaustive sleep. I blame the incredibly bad traffic yesterday. Took me almost 40 minutes to get from the LDP tunnel to the Sungai Buloh toll booth. Crazy. Then went all the way to Carrefour Wangsa Maju for dinner and drove (while incredibly groggy) back to USJ. Sigh... I need sleep.

Anyways, have a good end of work week and weekend all. Will catch up with you guys next Tuesday (Monday is a holiday! Woohoo!). Ciaos.

Tuesday, January 14, 2003

Had an email from my sis that was both without tact and needless. I have no patience for people, moreso family, that don't grasp the concept of being polite. Replied with a thickly laced email of worded sarcasm and veiled frustration. Knowing her, she's bound to not get it. She should have been born blond.

Am grumpy because I have a very nerve-wrecking meeting very soon with a very difficult client that lives to make life hell for people like me. Sigh. Am also grumpy because my credit card debt is a tad high and I WANT A BONUS OR AN INCREMENT! Sigh... thank gawd for Bangkok. Doubt I can survive a whole week of work in this mood.

Slept late last night as well, so being sleepy doesn't much help either. And I have yet to figure out how to get to the airport on Thursday morning by 620am. Anyone booked a radio cab before?

Monday, January 13, 2003

Drove to work this morning with bleary eyes and hair uncombed thinking it was Thursday. Very good sign of a two thumbs up weekend. :D

Saturday

Since I slept late on Friday (was on the phone making Telekoms happy), woke up Saturday morning tired and a tad cranky what with the devils on earth (my cousins) making a racket that could wake up the dead twice over. Did my regular morning routine (which basically involved tidying the rabbits and a shower) and quickly headed out (an hour earlier than I was supposed to). Any longer and I'm bound to be in jail for child assault. (DEVILS I tell you!).

Drove to Megamall to meet Kok for lunch. Had a superb Nandos meal (it has been so long) that was kindly paid for by Kok. We stayed in Nandos a good 2 hours chit-chatting about his freelancing adventures and business opportunities (stirring the money-minded China man inside us). It was a good conversation and I have some small freelancing work for him in return for more Nandos in the future. :D

Decided to catch a movie, Oliver came and joined us a while later. Queued hoping to catch I-SPY but it was soon sold out. Decided to watch Sweet Home Alabama instead (much to my relief, am not a big fan of Eddie Murphy). The movie is great! I so love good romantic comedies and the satirical look at Southern Americans what with the slang and all the honky tonk nonsense is so much fun. I don't always laugh out loud in cineplexes but this one is just hilarious. Too bad I ended up laughing alone most of the time. Malaysians are so the slow in catching subtle comedy. People should read and travel more.

We all split ways after, and I decided to drop by KLCC to see a friend. Since I don't know how to drive there, decided to leave my car at Megamall and took a cab to the Bangsar LRT. Wasn't too bad. A little congested but tolerable. Reached there in good time, browsed a bit then met my friend and I decided to head back to Megamall. By this time I realised that I would never be able to make it Puchong in time for dinner with Saw. Called Saw and explained and he didn't seemed to mind, much to my relief. (sorry Saw, you know what happened). So went back to Megamall, had dinner at a Korean place, then planned to head for home. Friend however was a little sick by then so decided to send him home. Took me quite a while since he lives in KL but managed to reach Puchong at about 10:15 to meet Saw for supper and conversation.

Sunday

Woke up tired again but had a bad vibe all over. Quickly went down and saw my car reverse sensors on the floor, chewed up by the dog. Considering that the car is new and reverse sensors being NOT cheap, I swore, I could have killed the darn dog there and then. Stood there in my pyjamas, smacking and spraying the darned beast while berating it for being hopelessly bad. Neighbours must have confirmed my insanity by then. Thank gawd I was decent. Pyjamas can be very erm... revealing at times. My aunt now wants to get rid of the dog. Honestly, it's not the dog's fault entirely. When you get a dog, or any pet, you have to take responsibility. My aunt leaves the dog on its own, no one but me (rarely when I have the time) plays with it and it has never been walked for ages. It's hardly fed proper (dried dog biscuits everyday is plain cruel). And then there's the unattended hamster that's fed by tossing food into the cage and the poor fishes. It's not easy to see why the kids are the way they are. Grr... you can see I'm pissed. What my aunt does is really none of my business but when I have to fork out money to get my car repaired, it really makes me mad. Can't wait to move out. Some family ties are best kept with some distance.

Anyways, went off to Megall (again) to meet Chun and Saw for Nandos (again) and did some shopping after that. Sorry Saw and Chun but after the 2nd hour, it was clear that I'm obviously intruding on a couple moment! Need to learn to be more tactful. Thank goodness Jin came, albeit hours late. Saw and Chun left at about 5'ish so Jin and I had dinner at McD's. (it being the weekend, I'm treating myself to fast food after week long dieting and work-outs). Jin then needed a lift to the Bangsar LRT so decided to be adventurous and gave it a go by following signboards. DID find it easily and didn't quite get lost. Am so proud of myself. Poorly honed directional skills must have gotten a wee bit better.

Monday

Woke up this morning tired and realised my mudflaps were chewed. I am going to slice, dice and skewer that dog to hell and back when I reach home. Saw, please please please move to USJ quick.

Am writing this from home on a weary Thursday night. Traffic was bad. Got some close calls with some mighty impatient drivers (meself including). Gotta learn patience. Hummm.....

Will be out tomorrow morning doing some banking for the office and then collect my flight tickets for next Thursday. Decided to stay an extra night (at my expense) and make a holiday out of my trip. Have never been to Thailand so this should be an eye-opener.

Looks like Nandos is on this Sunday with Chun and Saw. I'll have to meet Meng as well to collect my passport (thanks meng for the trouble) so I hope the two events don't clash. Lalala...

Have a good weekend everyone!

one of the weirdest quizzes i ever took. still dun quite get it tho.
Today had even worser traffic! What is bloody wrong! $#%^@#% Cursed. I want a Bond-mobile with rocket launchers. There are some drivers that needs their vehicles blasted to kingdom come.

Am leaving for Bangkok next Thursday for 2 days for some product training. Sigh... if holiday never mind lar but I could travel half way around the world and product training is still product training. Dull... snore... zzz....

For listeners of MixRadio, you would know that there's a Feng Shui tips session with Lillian Too every Friday. Guess what, my question got chosen! Gonna get a call on Monday for them to record my question so probably it will get some airplay on the Friday following. I hope I win some money-generating Feng Shui crap. (did I say crap? I meant item).

Wednesday, January 08, 2003

Traffic in the morning seems heavier. Looks like I have to leave even earlier to be on time. Sigh... am already leaving at 6.40 am. Argh.

Am still in a mighty grumpy mood. Carebears doesn't seem to work. Charbroiled my little ponies tasted great though. Lots of rainbow colours everywhere. :D

Tuesday, January 07, 2003

Traffic yesterday ain't too bad. Phew. Let's hope it stays that way.

Am still a little down in the dumps and working without direction isn't helping. Been keeping myself busy by stuffing myself with fruits and washing the car endlessly. Sigh.. it's so shiny and new. :)

Had a good breakfast of fried rice today, courtesy of aunt. That should keep me going well till dinner, with more fruits in between of course. Sigh... dieting is cruel. Plus side, it's going well so far. So got to keep it up.

Grumpy grumpy grumpy. Can I borrow a CareBear or two?

First day of school... am so not keen to endure the after work traffic today. Cursed...

Added blind-spot mirrors on the side mirrors. I may have sticked it wrongly but I dun quite see how it helps. Argh...

Am having a streak of really lousy events interspersed with really great stuff. Don't know whether to feel bad or celebrate. I rather things swing one way or another. Sigh...

Had a bad nightmare last nite, and Chun, Saw and Jin was in it. If you guys wanna know more, bring me out to eat. :)

Anyways, am semi-grumpy and cheerful. Let's hope you catch me at the latter. Have a good week all.

Sunday, January 05, 2003

Am in the office on a Sunday afternoon for an urgent client presentation which lasted a grand 20 minutes. Ah well...

Got my new Satria on Saturday after a long wait in JPJ, some confusion at Proton Edar which took a couple of hours to sort out and another hour's wait to install additional security devices. Took claim only at about 3pm but it's finally MINE MINE MINE! Muahahahahaha. Additional security cost me almost an extra thousand. Sigh... am so financially tight this month and it's CNY at the end of it. Grr...

(the security demo was cool. apparently, satria's and wira's are so easy to steal. the guy managed to remove the indicator lights, car batteries, headlights and break into the car in less than 5 minutes. all with 1 phone card and a small screwdriver.)

Car's a beaut to drive. However, got a horrendous shock when I saw the dashboard. (IT'S SO THE AHBENG! ARGH) I assumed it would be standard but they gave me a non-standard one with orange dashboards, very shiny chequered finishing but synthetic leather steering and a very cool gear knob. But my car seats have a weird batik like motif. ARGH!!! I should have chose the car meself. Never ever assume.

Anyways, ciaoing the office to indulge in what's left of my weekend. Catch ya all tomorrow when the work week begins.

Friday, January 03, 2003

TGIF! (doing the dance of joy)

Took half day off today. Gotta leave for Melaka earlier to register me car at JPJ. So if I make it in time, will have me new wheels by tomorrow. (anyone wans a ride?)

Had a good dinner yesterday at Johnny's Restaurant in Summit with Saw, Chun and blogger Aewis who's in PJ for this week. It's a Thai steamboat place, and ain't too bad considering. Clean, moderately priced and pretty decent food. Plus Saw brought a 20% discount coupon which made it all the better. Hehehe. Dinners with good company are fun. (though I think Chun and Aewis may have been occasionally bored by Magic and Pokemon discussions between us guys.)

Anyways, car's all packed so it's just killing time till 12+ before I hit the highway. Have a good weekend all. Take care!

Thursday, January 02, 2003

It's 2003 and am a tad disappointed. Was hoping to see aliens or some unearthly event but darn. Got to wait another year.

Dunno bout u guys but having a holiday on a Wed sucks. You can't do much. There's still half a work week after. And for one last time, it's so bloody warm! (I want air-conditioning!). Planned to stay at home and laze but seeing how warm it was (and how there was nothing to eat at home) I went to Carrefour to hang around and shop for car accessories. (am in a accessory shopping spree in anticipation of my new 'baby').

Anyways, can't wait till the weekend comes. Am sluggish with no work drive. Darn the holidays! Next one is only on the 20th of the month so it'll be back to normal for at least a brief period before CNY comes and it's the holidays all over again. :D
